Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
