Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
