The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which functions to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release his work was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received monetary aid in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

He is not the first artist to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they earned the award in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, frontman Cocker stated that the act would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her award among a few good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she told a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year M People gave their award to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Winning was ample," said vocalist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the second in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is backed by a national body and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
