World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
